AfriCON

KCC co founders Alex Simmons and Eugene Adams are excited about presenting The Mini Afri Con in collaboration with the Senegalese American Bilingual School (SABS). The tremendous success of our 2010 Kids’ Comic Con Senegal brought the works and perspectives of artists and writers of Color to the global stage. The invitation by SABS and the U.S. Embassy Dakar provided the first opportunity for KCC to reach an international audience. Since Dakar, KCC has developed in-person and online collaborations with partners in Ireland, Russia, Jamaica, Holland, and Kenya.

We are planning The Mini AfriCon for Friday April 30, 2021 as part of the KCC April Madness 2021 events. We are presently providing comic book writing and art workshops with elementary, middle, and high schools in the Bronx in partnership with the Young Men’s Initiative of New York City.

The Mini AfriCon will take place on Zoom from 12PM to 2PM (4PM – 6PM Dakar Time). Our goal is to engage students in Dakar, New York, and possibly Kenya and Nigeria in artist  presentations.  We hope to show the importance of young people creating, representing and impacting on the world through their artistic energy and vision. We plan on having seasoned artists and writers from the U.S. and Africa sharing their skills and perspectives with the student participants.
